Why this site exists
Most online trading calculators are a form and a number. They rarely explain where the number comes from, quietly assume a pip is worth 10 dollars, or ignore fees and short positions. TradingCalculated was built to do the opposite: show the formula, show the assumptions, and let you see how the result changes as you move the inputs.
Calculation methodology
- Pure, tested engines. Every calculation lives in an isolated function with no UI code, covered by automated tests for long and short trades, edge cases and invalid inputs.
- Precision. Values are computed in double precision and cleaned of binary rounding noise (so 0.1 + 0.2 shows as 0.3). Position sizes are always rounded down to a tradable increment so actual risk never exceeds your budget.
- Validation. Impossible setups — a long stop above entry, zero stop distance, negative quantities — are rejected with a clear message instead of producing a misleading number.
- Reproducible simulations. Monte Carlo results use a seeded random number generator. The seed is part of the shareable URL, so anyone opening your link sees the same simulated paths.
What the calculators don't know
A calculator can't see your broker's spread at the moment of execution, the slippage on a stop order, or how the market will behave tomorrow. Where these matter, each page says so. Projections — especially compounding projections — are illustrations of mathematics, not forecasts.
Privacy
All calculations run in your browser. Account balances, prices and other inputs are never sent to a server or included in analytics. The only things stored — on your device, in local storage — are your theme, sidebar preference, favorite calculators, recently used calculators and the trades you add in the Trade Analyzer. Shared links contain only the calculator inputs you chose to share.
Charts
The charts on this site are drawn with Lightweight Charts™, the open-source charting library by TradingView (Apache 2.0 licence). The TradingView logo in the corner of each chart is that attribution.
Relationship with Trading Metrics
TradingCalculated is a sister project of Trading Metrics, a trading journal and analytics platform. The calculators are free and independent; where it helps, pages point to Trading Metrics for tracking the same quantities across a real trade history. Documentation for the platform is at docs.tradingmetrics.com.
