How to calculate Chaikin Money Flow
Paste prices oldest-first, one value or row per bar — straight from a spreadsheet or CSV export. Use “Sample data” to try it instantly.
Worked example
- A bar with high 10, low 8 and close 10 (closing at the high) has a multiplier of +1.
- A bar closing at the low has −1; closing mid-range, 0.
- CMF averages these, weighted by volume, over 20 bars — e.g. +0.15 means steady buying pressure.
How to interpret Chaikin Money Flow
CMF ranges from −1 to +1. Sustained readings above zero indicate accumulation, below zero distribution. Divergence with price — price rising while CMF falls below zero — is a warning sign. See also On-Balance Volume.
