Stochastic RSI applies the stochastic formula to RSI instead of price: (RSI − lowest RSI) ÷ (highest RSI − lowest RSI). It is far more sensitive than RSI, so it reaches extremes often — use it for timing within a trend, not on its own.

How to calculate Stochastic RSI

StochRSI = (RSI − Lowest RSI) ÷ (Highest RSI − Lowest RSI) × 100 (over n bars) %K = SMA(StochRSI, 3) %D = SMA(%K, 3)

Paste prices oldest-first, one value or row per bar — straight from a spreadsheet or CSV export. Use “Sample data” to try it instantly.

Worked example

  1. Over the last 14 bars RSI ranged from 40 to 70.
  2. Current RSI 46 → StochRSI = (46 − 40) ÷ (70 − 40) × 100 = 20 — at the bottom of its recent range.

How to interpret Stochastic RSI

StochRSI tells you where RSI sits within its own recent range. It hits 0 and 100 far more often than RSI does, which makes it useful for timing entries in the direction of an established trend, and noisy on its own.

Stochastic RSI calculator FAQ

Why is StochRSI so jumpy?

It's an oscillator of an oscillator — small RSI changes become large StochRSI changes when RSI's range is narrow.

0–1 or 0–100?

Both scales are used; this calculator shows 0–100 so 80/20 thresholds match the classic stochastic.
