How to calculate the stochastic oscillator
Paste prices oldest-first, one value or row per bar — straight from a spreadsheet or CSV export. Use “Sample data” to try it instantly.
Worked example
- Over 14 bars the highest high is 112 and the lowest low is 100.
- Close at 109 → raw %K = (109 − 100) ÷ (112 − 100) × 100 = 75.
- %D is the 3-bar average of %K.
How to interpret the stochastic oscillator
%K shows where the close sits in the recent range: near 100 at the top, near 0 at the bottom. Readings above 80 are overbought and below 20 oversold; %K crossing %D inside those zones is the usual trigger. Like RSI, it can stay extreme in strong trends.
